Elizabeth School #29

Background

Designated by the State of New Jersey as an “Abbott” school district, this new elementary school in Elizabeth was constructed as part of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority school construction program to provide upgraded school facilities in urban areas.

The Challenge

There was a two-story former Catering Facility as well as an in-ground swimming pool on site. The wood-framed building included a basement that was demolished.

Our Solution

The three-story building complements the existing architecture character of this area of the city. The project provides appropriate space for 42 instructional classrooms, including Special Education, athletic facilities, support programs, technology upgrades, and community activities. A playground area was designed above the underground parking garage. Site improvements include a parent drop off area, bus area, delivery access, security and fencing around the entire property. The environment provides a friendly, inviting building and is designed to accommodate the needs of students as they relate to the District’s Educational Program, as well as community members when they use the recreational areas.
