Elizabeth School #31

Background

Designated by the State of New Jersey as an “Abbott” school district, this new elementary school in Elizabeth was constructed as part of the NJSCC school construction program to provide upgraded school facilities in urban areas.

The Challenge

This three story 123,000 SF steel frame structure was a challenge to construct due to very tight site constraints. The exterior of the building consists of an extensive glass curtain wall system, brick masonry, metal wall panels and precast wall panels. The exterior construction was particularly complex due to the sloping, curved and stepped wall configurations. The interior walls were constructed of masonry and abusive resistant high impact drywall.

Our Solution

The structure houses classrooms, a combination cafeteria/auditorium and a gymnasium. The site included colored concrete inlays in the walkway and playground areas. This project was completed on time and within budget. This school now houses 750 students in Grade Pre-K to Grade 8.
